“The Lady Hacks” is going to be one of the first student run All-ladies Hackathon to be held in GTA. Over the duration of 32 hours, ladies are going to be immersed in tech culture and encouraged to exercise their imagination to create interesting and innovative hacks. By providing a safe and supportive environment at our hackathons, female students from all backgrounds and experience levels will be able to enjoy an accessible, approachable, positive experience.

This hackathon will provide a platform for women to explore their technical abilities, meet other women, and learn and focus on the project without having to worry about being outnumbered.

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a 24-48 hour marathon surrounding collaborative computer programming where groups will build, create, produce and deliver a project in this span of time. It starts with a pitch and teams will form to turn the pitch into reality. Some hackathons will hold workshops (The Lady Hacks will have them as well) during the time period. Once the teams are finished, they will present their projects to judges for a chance to win prizes.

Who can participate?

Female students of any education level and background may participate.

How much does it cost?

Admission is completely free. Food and accommodations will be provided throughout the entire event to keep you energized, so don’t worry about bringing any food.

How do you get to the event?

York University is a hub of public transportation stops, you can get into York’s campus via subway, shuttle bus, GO train, GO buses and YRT/Viva.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! Please fill this form out.

What prior skills or experience do I need to know before entering?

Come as you are! It’s a plus to have coding or technical experience, but it’s not a requirement. There will be workshops, talks and mentors to help you with your project. Just bring your energy and creative mind, and get ready to meet amazing people.

How will judging work?

We have representatives coming from some of the biggest names and companies in technology who will be judging team presentations.
